Our Lagotto Romagnolo breeding program was founded with a clear goal: to select healthy, balanced individuals that meet the true breed standard, while also enhancing the extraordinary abilities of this ancient and versatile dog. The Lagotto is a historic Italian breed, known and appreciated worldwide not only for its docile and affectionate nature, but also for its exceptional truffle hunting abilities.
Selection of the Lagotto Romagnolo: Balance, Health, and Function
The Lagotto Romagnolo breeding program is based on an official ENCI and FCI standard, defined over time by the breed's founding fathers and rediscoverers. This standard represents the ideal model to which every breeder aspires: in dog shows, the individual that most closely matches these characteristics is rewarded.
In our selection process, we prioritize:
A balanced temperament, essential for a family and working dog
A medium size, avoiding extremes of gigantism or miniaturization
A solid build and hardiness, essential qualities for a hunting dog
A strong working aptitude, particularly for truffle hunting
Each puppy is born from a careful selection of breeding stock, with the aim of maintaining and enhancing the breed's typical qualities.
Health and genetic testing: an absolute priority
Il Lagotto è una razza dalle origini antiche e documentate. Una testimonianza affascinante si trova in un celebre dipinto del 1627 del pittore barocco Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, detto il Guercino, in cui compare proprio un Lagotto all’interno di una scena di vita quotidiana. Questo conferma il legame storico tra l’uomo e questa straordinaria razza.
For us, the health of our Lagottis is paramount. All our breeding dogs undergo rigorous health and genetic screening, in collaboration with private and university research institutes.
We perform specific tests for:
Hip dysplasia
Juvenile epilepsy
DNA analysis
This approach allows us to guarantee healthy puppies, both phenotypically and genotypically, offering maximum transparency and reliability to future owners.
We select Lagottis with harsh, curly coats—a distinctive characteristic of the breed—in the most popular and typical colors. The attention to the coat is not only aesthetic, but also functional, as it protects the dog while working in the woods and on the most challenging terrain.
Lagotto Romagnolo truffle hunting: passion and results in the field
Our Lagotti are not only beautiful, but above all, hardworking dogs. We regularly participate in:
- ENCI and FCI beauty shows
- Working trials and hunting camps
All our specimens are used for truffle hunting in natural terrain, where they demonstrate excellent olfactory abilities and great determination. We collaborate with expert trainers and leading organizations in the field, such as the Derthona Truffle Academy.
Among our specimens, the male Cacao della Metaurense stands out, a true star of the woods and a benchmark for his performance.
